The Miami Beach Classical Music Festival (MMF) seeks talented and experienced Stage Managers (non-Equity) to join the team and produce a festival experience focusing on immersive opera productions at the Faena Forum. The Stage Manager is a key team member, ensuring that our operas are produced and presented at the highest level possible. We offer the opportunity to work in some of the highest-profile venues in Miami Beach. Our opera productions take place in the breathtaking Temple Emanu-el with rehearsals taking place in several additional Miami Beach venues. 

Founded in 2013, MMF is an educational organization and we equally prioritize the excellence of our student participants’ experience with the highest possible artistic quality of productions. 

Primary Job Functions

  • Responsible for all aspects of managing full-length opera productions including running rehearsals, keeping time, taking blocking notes, creating a props and costume list, tracking set pieces, being on book for rehearsals and coordinating all staff and volunteers. Must be hands-on in rehearsals and work with every level, adapting techniques to meet the needs of participants.

  • Responsible for the communication among the production team and communicating schedule updates to participants.

  • Responsible for working within the production budget, clearly communicating set, prop, and costume needs in advance to the Technical Director.

  • Ensure that appropriate equipment and supplies are available for rehearsals and the production; set-up and take-down. Completes preventative maintenance by inspecting equipment on a regular basis. 

  • Provide a safe learning environment. Recognize emergency and dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly; administer first aid as needed. 

  • Attend and participate in production meetings.

  • Follow, model, and enforce MMF’s COVID safety procedures. 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional stage management experience, with experience specifically in stage management of opera productions.

  • Demonstrated experience with techniques, methods and procedures for executing multi-genre performing arts productions with specific experience in opera production.

  • Working knowledge and training in a wide range of theatrical systems and production elements including stage, sets, stage management, computerized lighting systems, digital sound systems, rigging, and carpentry. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading and supervising diverse teams and crews in a variety of projects.

  • Ability to read music. 

  • Creativity in solving technical and production challenges.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain poise and a calm demeanor while modeling a customer-focused approach. 

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong overall knowledge of PC and Mac computers and software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, computerized lighting and sound systems, CAD and other production/facility software.

  • Background check required.
