July 23, 2022 | 7:30 PM
Faena Forum

Written by the French composer Georges Bizet, with the libretto produced by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halevy, the Carmen opera premiered on 3rd March 1875. It has been hailed as a masterpiece and remains one of the most popular operas today. Carmen tells the story of Don Jose, a Spanish soldier who falls in love with the fiery and tempestuous Carmen. After two months away, Jose finds that he has a rival for Carmen's affections in the form of the toreador Escamillo. Love, anger, and jealousy explode as the three become embroiled in this passionate Romance, containing some of the most iconic songs in opera.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
By Benjamin Britten

July 22, 2022 | 7:30 PM
July 24, 2022 | 1:30 PM
Faena Forum

A haunting and mystical take on one of William Shakespeare's most iconic comedies, A Midsummer Night's Dream follows four Athenian lovers and a troupe of would-be actors into a fairy wood, ruled by the feuding King Oberon and Queen Titania. At the center of the tale is love-in-idleness, a magic flower struck by Cupid's arrow that can make anyone fall in love with the next person (or thing) they see. The course of true love never did run smooth, as friends are torn apart, actors are scared witless, and the Queen of the Fairies finds herself sharing her bower with a monster.

L'Orfeo
By Claudio Monteverdi

July 23, 2022 | 1:30 PM
July 24, 2022 | 5:00 PM
Faena Forum - Ampitheater

Performed by our Baroque Institute, L'Orfeo is an old song— one of the earliest written operas still performed today. The opera retells the classic Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus is a poet and musician, son of the muse Calliope. After his true love dies the day of their wedding, Orpheus takes a harrowing journey way down through the Underworld to convince Pluto, the Lord of the Dead, to allow Eurydice to return with him.
